FINAL YEAR FIRST SEMESTER
Final Year Diaries: Surviving the First Five Months at UNEC
If someone had told me that my final year would start with a battle for bedspace, I might’ve laughed it off. But here we are.
Hey everyone, welcome to my new blog series where I’ll be documenting the wild, weird, and surprisingly wholesome moments of my final year at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC). This first post is all about the first five months — the rollercoaster ride that was the first semester.
Let’s rewind a bit.
The Hostel Hustle
Getting a hostel in UNEC is not for the faint-hearted. I had made up my mind that I wanted to stay in the hostel for final year. I wanted to be closer to classes, to feel more plugged in, and truthfully, to avoid the stress of transport and light wahala that comes with staying off campus.
But wanting it didn’t make it easy.
From refreshing the portal every second to waiting in line with half my soul in my hand, getting a bedspace felt like a miracle. And when I finally secured one? Pure joy. If you’ve ever had to fight for a UNEC hostel space, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Settling In
Once the hostel wahala settled, reality kicked in: this was it. My final lap. Final year. The beginning of the end.
Classes resumed in full force, deadlines started stacking, and before I could even fully settle into my room, the workload had me by the neck. But I also found comfort in the chaos — late-night gist sessions in the hostel, spontaneous reading groups, and those little daily routines that make UNEC life feel like home.
What’s Coming in This Series
This blog series will be my honest, sometimes chaotic, sometimes inspiring, behind-the-scenes look at life as a final year student in UNEC. From lectures to projects, hostel drama to career plans, I’ll be sharing the highs, lows, and everything in between.
Whether you’re a fellow UNEC student, a nostalgic graduate, or someone just curious about what final year looks like in a Nigerian university, this series is for you.
So stay tuned — the first semester recap is only just beginning.
